Our gmail account was hacked into through the HomeAway website (seems to be fairly common if you do a yahoo search)and all the inquiries on the availability of our house were forwarded to another email address that was: holidayrental2006@gmail.com

This person at this email address emailed back a renter and had them wire transfer money to a Mercantil Commerce Bank in Florida. HomeAway really wants nothing to do in helping us, it's customer or the renter. HomeAway is entirely interested in covering their own butts saying they aren't responsible in any way. They have removed our listing (that we paid for btw) until we come to a mutual agreement (reimbursement) with the person who wired the money to the person who hacked into our acct. on HomeAway.com We had NOTHING to do with this and we are now being told by HomeAway that we have to reimburse this person that was ripped off because of HomeAway.com inability to protect it's customers personal information.

Homeaway has responded to us in regards of turning our site back on. They wanted us to make a good will gesture to the consumer who was defrauded. We did offer something that HomeAway's legal department was satisified with and our site was turned back on with different security etc. HomeAway doesn't want to take ANY responsibility for what is happening and blames it 100% on GMAIL. This is happening to a lot of people and NEEDS to be addressed. I have now posted on my HomeAway site that anyone interested in renting should CALL the number listed and NEVER, NEVER EVER send a wire transfer to anyone...
